We are diving straight into the last stretch of the school year, with a renewed focus on quality over quantity in our work and our learning. Students are beginning to explore one facet of biodiversity, the Plantae kingdom, through the experiential use of their senses: the texture of soil, the smell of sage, the taste of oregano.

Hilling our potatoes

In mathematics, we are exploring some of the most difficult maths of the year: prime factorization, divisibility rules and long division.

Desert similes and metaphors

While in French we practised perspective (and metaphors) by asking ourselves: How would you describe the desert to a Vancouverite who had never seen it in-person or captured on film? Students constructed unique sentences and descriptions of features such as dunes, sands and oases. Students also listened to the various sounds of the 1–877–2BE-CALM phone-line and wrote descriptions of what sounds they would record to sooth away folks’ anxieties. We have also continued to investigate how to improve our writing by learning more about the subtleties of punctuation and the types of sentences.

Agenda:

  • Read ~25 minutes per day(en français)
  • Complete homework journal and sign portfolio to confirm receipt of school work (if not already done)
  • Library book exchange (Wednesdays)
