Wrapping up projects and assignments during a normally busy time of the year is usually daunting. But given the minimalism and simplicity of schooling this year, this month has been uncharacteristically calm and relaxed within the classroom walls, a welcome silver-lining.
In French we are studying the most important components of good sentences, starting with the basics: where do we place capital letters and punctuation. We are also routinely having our sharing circles and class meetings. And students started work on a blanket story project inspired by Sylvain Rivard’s Maksa/The Blanket/La couverture book.
In the meantime, students are also collecting information on their research subject in Socials, answering questions like who was important in their subject’s life, where did they contribute and what community problems did their subject solve? Students are continuing to learn what contributions to a community are important and should be celebrated.
Furthermore, we have been creating some collective and individual geometry art (check Teams for more photos)and attempted a challenging math quiz on area and perimeter.
In Sciences, students finished their graphic novels on the origins of the landforms, and we explored erosion through a sugar cube demonstration and an outdoor laboratory.
Artistically, via the lens of “how can we serve our community?” Students constructed winter snow flake decorations to be included in food hampers being sent out to those in need of food security. Thank you to the parent who suggested this wonderful idea.
