Tesselations and Mandalas

We have been steadily progressing through our learning over the last month. In mathematics, we finished our exploration of geometry — creating tessellation patterns; and learning to measure perimeter and area — and began to look at operations, in particular addition. Furthermore, students received their paycheques and completed their second budget of the year.

In language arts, students continued to write and fabricate their Maksa/Blanket stories, while also learning about punctuation and sentence conventions. The grade 4s are continuing to write their citizen’s voice letters.

Our blankets

In career studies (with elements of language arts), students wrote a CV to apply to their dream jobs, for which they are receiving paycheques.

Our CVs

In health studies, students have been building a brain: learning about human behaviours and how they relate to the anatomy of the brain; learning about neurons and the near infinite ways they can form networks; and learning about the main neurotransmitters and their effects on our emotions.

Building our robot’s brain

In art (and design), students have been exploring instruments and how their designs affect various elements of sound.

Students also spent sometime to write cards to members of the Canadian Armed Forces for the holidays
