We have wrapped up one of the more difficult stretches of the school year; all the way up to the last day, students were continuing to learn various concepts and to explore various themes.

In our Territories unit, students built mini-territories on the school grounds. They considered what ecological services their populations would have access to, and what their humans would need to trade for to supplement their survival. They transferred what they learned to their territorial maps (see conference portfolio on Teams).

Concurrently students finalized and posted their Diversity Project work, a culmination of 3 months worth of learning. The quality of their work is a source of pride, and has received many positive comments from other teachers. Every student should be immensely proud of what they achieved.

Students also planned and executed an entire day of teaching (journée switch), which a group of students had “purchased” with funds from their paycheques. Lessons and routines that students taught included: a lesson related to Women’s History Month, the class reminders, the emotion clock, math, art and the spirit journal.

A highlight of the last few days was definitely students planting our spuds. We have sown 25 potatoes with sprouts in order to cultivate and eventually collect a harvest of potatoes thanks to the Spuds in Tubs program Div 15 is a part of.

We have also been continuing our discussions regarding the use of adjectives to enrich sentences, and also exercising how to use the dictionary to find the types and definitions of words.

Agenda for the break:

  • Homework journal = Read in French (daily average of 15–25 minutes)
