Moving quickly through November with the end of the 2020 portion of the school year in sight.
In French studies, we are continuing our exploration of the diversity of stories: reading The Wall, assembling a story with a partner from descriptive sketches (Notre histoire on Teams), experiencing episode 3 of Alice Inanimée, watching the Indomitable music video by DJ Shub and listening to an oral story about the origins of landscapes (and transcribing it into a graphic novel). While studying these stories, students continue to ask themselves who the characters are, where the story is placed, what the problem is and how it is solved. Furthermore, students created infinitely looping stories in Math by writing it on the single looping surface of a Möbius strip.
In Mathematics, we dove deeper into the characteristics of polygons: students are measuring edges (“arêtes”) in order to calculate perimeter and area of rectangles, polygons that can be cut into rectangles and (extending) even triangles. We also started a mathematical art project in which students will discover the ever-presence of polygons in art (e.g. in underdrawings and in street art).
In Sciences, we introduced ourselves to a handful of different landscapes that humans encounter on their territories. Through the oral story, students learned about their origins (i.e. tectonic plates, erosion and weathering).
In Socials, students began to ponder who they might research as a subject of a portrait and poem (in relation to our discussions about cultural diversity). They have been challenged with choosing an individual who has contributed to our greater community in an important way and in a way worthy of being celebrated.
