We had a slow start to the school year but the pace has picked up in October:

We read “Quand on était seuls” by David Robertson for Orange Shirt Day and began to write poems based on our understandings of the destructive impacts of Residential Schools.

We learned about the Okavango delta and painted the mighty rivers of the world for World Rivers Day.

In Math, we have started exploring regularities, patterns and sequences. Learning about the interconnected nature of numbers and place value. Students have been introduced to math journals, in which they record their mathematical thinking. We have already learned about the usefulness of creating tables to organize information and calculating with an abacus.

Students are going through challenges connected to each core competency: so far they have done the Celtic Knot, Mystery Box and Personal Identity challenges. Binders are also set-up and organized by core competency for the year: Critical Thinking, Creative Thinking, Personal Awareness and Responsibility, Personal and Cultural Identity, Social Responsibility, and Communication.
